SPRINGFIELD — Effingham County recently added Patrick McClure to its coaching staff.
McClure, who accepted the position to become the head coach of Lady Rebels basketball team, is thrilled to be back in the high school ranks after serving at South Effingham Middle School.
“It’s exciting,” McClure said. “I haven’t coached girls for 12 years and that was in soccer. It’s exciting to be back at this level. I know Effingham basketball pretty well and I know that there’s talent at Effingham County, and that sparked my interest. I felt like it was a good move to make.”
McClure who will have to develop a team that won just seven games a year ago. The Lady Rebels advanced to the Class AAAAAA Final Four six years ago but have just 17 wins in the last two seasons.
McClure believes he can restore the winning tradition and hopes the girls will buy into his philosophy.
“I met with them as a team and laid down my vision,” he said. “This summer is a way to get to know the girls better and what I need to do for each player. I need to lay down the system we are going to run.”
