An Effingham County man died from the injuries he suffered when his motorcycle collided with a sport utility vehicle Friday afternoon.

Mark Bromund Jr., 33, of Rincon died early Saturday morning at Memorial Health University Medical Center, according to the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office.

Bromund was taken to Memorial after the motorcycle he was driving hit an SUV on Hodgeville Road around 3:30 p.m. Friday.

“Initial reports indicate that Bromund was traveling southbound on Hodgeville Road, passing vehicles,  when he struck an SUV which was turning north onto Hodgeville Road from Kolic Helmey Road,” said ECSO spokesman Detective David Ehsanipoor.

The crash remains under investigation by the ECSO’s traffic enforcement unit.

Bromund’s death was Effingham County’s 14th traffic fatality this year, according to Ehsanipoor. Effingham had 16 traffic deaths last year, which was double the 2012 total.
