Mustangs avoid winless season

STATESBORO -- After trailing 17-14 at halftime, South Effingham shut out Statesboro the rest of the way Friday night, galloping to a 28-17 win and a Class AAAAA playoff spot.

It was the Mustangs' first win of the year.

Souith Effingham also beat Statesboro last year to clinch a playoff spot.

Mustangs quarterback Taylor Jackson tossed three touchdown passes. Brian Meyer caught a pair of them.
