GUYTON — South Effingham’s Makenly Newbill knows all too well the highs and lows of being a Mustang.
The senior has played lights out football this season but his athleticism has often been overshadowed by his team’s record.
Over the past two seasons, South Effingham has posted just two wins — a far cry from the 7-4 campaign the Mustangs enjoyed during his sophomore campaign.
Still, Newbill has been part of three postseason appearances and in his last ride in a Mustang uniform. The decorated athlete is ready to shine in his final prep football postseason.
“I love the atmosphere (in the playoffs),” Newbill said. “I enjoy competition that shows up because it shows that I can compete on a difficult level.”
Despite the Mustangs’ rocky 1-9 season, the anchor in the middle of the defense says he's confident his teammates will be able to bring the same fire and passion against unbeaten Warner Robins that they've had all year, and hopefully pull an upset.
