Parent University coming to Rincon Elementary

Parent University will be at Rincon Elementary from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, March 23.

The free event is sponsored by the Effingham County School District and the Springfield Central High School Association.

Among the breakout sessions offered are: enrichment sessions to enhance the lives of participants who do not have children in their care; and academically focused classes to improve student achievement and strengthen the family unit.

Also available are: Kidz Academy (Grades Pre-kindergarten-5); Youth Leadership Classes (Grades 6-12); breakfast, snacks and lunch; “Books for Ownership” - Free book selection for youth in attendance; Free Online Resources for Parents - RIF.org/literacy-central; Vendors & Door Prizes.

Ashley Havens named to Husson University President's List

BANGOR, ME -- Ashley Havens of Rincon has been named to Husson University Online's President's List for Term 3 of the 2023-2024 academic year.

Havens is enrolled in Husson's online Animal-Assisted Therapy program.

Courses for full-time online undergraduate students are offered over the course of seven weeks. This accelerated timeframe provides adult learners with an opportunity to balance existing personal and professional commitments as they complete their studies.

Full-time online students who earn President's List, Dean's List and Honors List recognition must be enrolled as an undergraduate, carry a full-time load of 12 credit hours over the course of 21 weeks, complete all attempted courses in the time allotted, and achieve a designated semester grade-point average. Credits from pass/fail classes do not qualify toward meeting the minimum credit hour requirement. To be named to the President’s List, the student must earn a GPA of at least 3.8 on a 4.0 scale.

More than 50 seniors attended the annual “Seniors in the Know” event in Guyton March 5. Seniors learned about services and programs available to them through local agencies, covering topics such as safety, travel, meditation, healthcare, events at the Mars Theater, and resources available at the Live Oaks Public Library, the YMCA, hospice, and more.
