One robbery suspect nabbed by Port Wentworth police

The Port Wentworth Police Department has made an arrest in a Thursday incident that left two law enforcement officers injured.

Jermaine Kareem Evans was arrested by the Port Wentworth Police Department on Friday.  

Evans is one of three men suspected of being involved in a robbery Thursday at Wal-Mart in Rincon. A Rincon Police Department officer stopped the suspects in their vehicle but they fled the scene.

Later, a Port Wentworth officer attempted to stop the speeding suspects but they fled again and the officer pursued them. At that point, Effingham County deputies heard about the chase on their radios and joined the pursuit, which ended in a crash near the southbound I-95 exit and on Ga. Hwy 21.

A Port Wentworth officer and Effingham County deputy were involved in the crash. The officer sustained serious injuries and the deputy's injuries were minor.

The other suspects, Jamri Pai-Shaw Chisolm and Javonta Hakeem Coney. Coney, considered armed and dangerous, are wanted by the Port Wentworth Police Department for aggravated assault, fleeing to elude and theft by receiving motor vehicle.
