Public hearings on proposed tax increase slated

GUYTON — The Guyton City Council on Thursday announced its intention to increase the 2019 property taxes it will levy by 52.04 percent over the rollback millage rate.

The tentative increase will result in a millage rate of 3.655, a hike of 1.251 mils. The proposed tax increase for a home with a fair market value of $150,000 is approximately $75.06 and the proposed tax increase for non-homestead property with a fair market value of $100,000 is approximately $50.94.

All concerned citizens are invited to attend a public hearing on the proposed increase. The hearing is slated Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. in council chambers at City Hall, 310 Central Blvd. Hearings on the matter are also set Aug. 29 at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. in council chambers.
