Jose Ramirez, who served a brief stint as interim police chief last summer, was terminated in January.

RINCON -- Jose Ramirez's appeal of his Jan. 16  termination as an officer in the Rincon Police Department is set Thursday at 9:30 a.m.

The public hearing will be conducted in Rincon City Council chambers at 107 W. 17th St.

Ramirez was terminated following an investigation into violations of employment standards of the City of Rincon and the police department. The former lieutenant, represented by attorney Rachel Berlin Benjamin of Buckley Beal LLP in Atlanta, cited racial discrimination on the part of Chief Mark Gerbino as the reason for his ouster.

A 12-year veteran of the department, Ramirez served as interim police chief following the July 2018 resignation of Phillip Scholl. Gerbino was named to succeed Scholl three months later.
