The Rincon City Council met Monday night in the first meeting of 2017 and voted on a number of issues, including the addition of two new vehicles for the Rincon Police Department.

The Rincon PD requested the approval to purchase two new vehicles from Allan Vigil Ford-Lincoln at a cost of $50,837. Shortly after first introducing the item, the request for approval was passed.

The two cars purchased will be Ford Fusions and will replace both a 2010 and 2014 model that are currently in use with the police department.

The council also approved the preliminary site plans for Dr. Suds Car Wash, a tunnel-style drive-thru car wash that will be located on Hwy 21 S. The group bringing the car wash to Rincon already own one in Kingsland, Ga.

After its successful run from last year, the council also approved a proposal to bring the Lewis and Clark Circus to Rincon, which will be held at Freedom Park from March 10-12.

“I went last year and it was a big hit,” Councilman Paul Wendelken said of the circus. Councilwoman Christi Ricker added that “they did a good job last year”.

Along with these items, the council approved a motion to amend the FY 2017 Budget, appointed Jesse “Ben” Blackwell, Jr. to the Rincon Planning and Zoning Board and appointed Levi Scott as Mayor Pro Tem for 2017.

Councilman James Dasher and Councilman Reese Browher were absent from the meeting – all other council members were present.

The Rincon City Council will meet again on Jan. 30 at 7 p.m.
