School starts Aug. 3, and school zone cameras will be operational on school days. The Effingham County Sheriff Department wants to remind drivers that speed limits will be strictly enforced on school days. The speed cameras will not be operational on weekends or school holidays, the Sheriff Department said.

At Blandford Elementary, cameras will be operational from 6:35 a.m.-3:25 p.m. on school days with the following speed limits: 45 mph from 6:35-6:50, 7:50 a.m.-1:55 p.m., and 2:55-3:25 p.m.; flashers will be on from 6:50-7:50 a.m. and again from 1:55-2:55 p.m. The speed limit is 35 mph when flashers are on.

At Ebenezer Elementary and Ebenezer Middle schools, cameras will be operational from 7:20 a.m.-4:35 p.m. on school days with the following speed limits: 45 mph from 7:20-7:35 a.m., 8:40 a.m.-2:50 p.m., and 4:05-4:35 p.m.; flashers will be on from 7:35-8:40 a.m. and again from 2:50-4:05 p.m. The speed limit is 35 mph when flashers are on.

At Effingham County Middle and Effingham County High schools, cameras will be operational from 7:25 a.m.-4:40 p.m. on school days with the following speed limits: 55 mph from 7:25-7:40 a.m., 8:40 a.m.-3:10 p.m., and 4:10-4:40 p.m.; flashers will be on from 7:40-8:40 a.m. and again from 3:10-4:10 p.m. The speed limit is 40 mph when flashers are on.

At Marlow Elementary, cameras will be operational from 6:45 a.m.-3:35 p.m. on school days with the following speed limits: 55 mph from 6:45-7:00 a.m., 8:00 a.m.-2:05 p.m., and 3:05-3:35 p.m.; flashers will be on from 7:00-8:00 a.m. and again from 2:05-3:05 p.m. The speed limit is 35 mph when flashers are on.

At South Effingham Middle and South Effingham High schools, cameras will be operational from 7:20 a.m.-4:50 p.m. on school days with the following speed limits: 55 mph from 7:20-7:35 a.m., 8:35 a.m.-3:20 p.m., and 4:20-4:50 p.m.; flashers will be on from 7:35-8:35 a.m. and again from 3:20-4:20 p.m. The speed limit is 35 mph when flashers are on.

At South Effingham Elementary School, cameras will be operational from 6:45 a.m.-3:35 p.m. on school days with the following speed limits: 45 mph from 6:45-7:00 a.m., 8:00 a.m.-2:05 p.m., and 3:05-3:35 p.m.; flashers will be on from 7:00-8:00 a.m. and again from 2:05-3:05 p.m. The speed limit is 35 mph when flashers are on.

At Sandhill Elementary School, cameras will be operational from 6:45 a.m.-3:35 p.m. on school days with the following speed limits: 50 mph from 6:45-7:00 a.m., 8:00 a.m.-2:05 p.m., and 3:05-3:35 p.m.; flashers will be on from 7:00-8:00 a.m. and again from 2:05-3:05 p.m. The speed limit is 35 mph when flashers are on.

The fine for speeding in a school zone is $75 for the first offense and $125 for the second offense, according to state law. A new state law that went into effect in July says a hold may also be place on the vehicle’s registration renewal until fines are paid.
