Sex offenders required to report to sheriff's office on Halloween

SPRINGFIELD -- While everyone is gearing up for Halloween, the Effingham County Sheriff's Office is doing its part to keep registered sex offenders at a safe distance.

The Georgia Department of Community Supervision requires all registered sex offenders on probation and parole to report to the sheriff's office between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Halloween night.

The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office has been requiring sex offenders to report to the office for the past several years. This approach helps in two ways; it keeps sex offenders from re-offending in our county and also assures they will not be accused of wrongdoing.

There are around 100 registered sex offenders in Effingham County.
