Springfield Elementary School gets musical boost

SPRINGFIELD — The Georgia Music Foundation recently chimed in with a $5,000 grant that has greatly enhanced the music program at Springfield Elementary School.

The school, one of 17 2018 grant recipients, used the money to purchase audio equipment and a few instruments. The students showed off its new wares during a Sept. 17 PTO meeting.

Effingham County commissioners approved a $1 million plan to convert the historic Abercorn Landing on Abercorn Creek into a public recreation site. The project, managed by Moffatt & Nichol, begins with a floating dock and fishing pier, with future phases adding restrooms and other amenities. The site dates back to 1859 and sits amid fast-growing development.
