The Springfield City Council unanimously approved the 2008 budget at a special called meeting on Tuesday.

Council members did not discuss the budget, and there was no public comment made during the meeting or any of the budget hearings.

The police department budget has the largest budget from the general fund at $430,466.61 increased from $382,885 in 2007. Of the total budget $336,102.14 is budgeted personnel expenses.

The streets and lanes department has the second largest budget at $234,877.51. That budget is less than last year’s $320,486 budget. The budget decrease is due to a reduction in the budget for supplies, Laurel Street improvement, equipment and vehicle expenses.

The building and zoning department has the smallest budget at $17,400. That is less than last years budget, which had included office equipment that will not be necessary in 2008.

Events has a budget of $17,675 of that $13,000 is for program and work events, which includes the annual July 4 fireworks display.
