ATLANTA—Georgia Department of Community Health (DCH) Public Health officials are working in collaboration with local and federal partners to ensure that Georgia’s WIC participants and authorized WIC vendors are aware of the recent Similac powder infant formula recall. Officials are urging participants and authorized WIC vendors to check the lot numbers of Similac powder formula for the letters “RB” to determine if they have purchased a recalled product.  Lot numbers are located on the bottom of Similac formula containers. No Abbott concentrate, ready-to-feed infant or specialty formulas are impacted. 

 

While the Abbott Ross Laboratories and federal officials are leading efforts to remove recalled Similac powdered formula from store shelves, Georgia’s WIC Program is proactively contacting all authorized Georgia’s WIC vendors to provide guidance on exchanging recalled formula. Georgia’s WIC encourages vendors to maintain supplies of non-recalled powder infant formula.

 

“Our participating families should know that Georgia’s WIC continues to work with all of our partners to provide them the supplemental nutrition necessary to eat, grow and live healthy,” said Abdul K. Lindsay, MScFT, RD, LD, CPT, director of Georgia’s WIC program.

 

Georgia’s WIC participants may return recalled powder formula to their local authorized WIC vendor for a point-of-sale exchange for non-recalled powder, liquid concentrate, ready-to-feed formula. WIC participants may also continue to exchange their powder formula vouchers for liquid concentrate or ready-to-feed formula vouchers at their local WIC clinics or can use their powder formula vouchers at any authorized WIC vendor for liquid concentrate or ready-to-feed formula.
