An Effingham County High School student killed in a Dec. 29 traffic accident was laid to rest last week.

Karen Yun, 17, died after the minivan she was driving was hit by a tractor-trailer on Old Augusta Road South.

Yun was on Fort Howard Road and turned left onto Old Augusta Road. The vehicle was struck by a tractor-trailer headed south on Old Augusta.
Georgia State Patrol Sgt. Chris Rodewolt said a call came in at 11:56 a.m. about a vehicle crash with injuries.

“The preliminary investigation reveals that a vehicle traveling on Fort Howard Road failed to yield at the stop sign and was subsequently struck by a tractor-trailer,” he said.

Yun was the only occupant of the vehicle. Troopers talked with the tractor-trailer driver, who appeared to be unhurt.

Yun worked at China Delight restaurant with her aunt and uncle. A native of New York, she was a junior at ECHS.

“I am always saddened by the death of such a wonderful young lady at an early age,” said Effingham County High School principal Yancy Ford. “Karen was a really sweet young lady who led by example in our school. The Rebel Nation will continue to pray for the family and friends as they try to heal.”
