Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police are investigating the collision of two pickup trucks that left one driver dead and two others injured Monday afternoon.

Israel Elder, 34, was pronounced dead at the 5:51 p.m. crash on Fort Argyle Road. John Scott, 53, of Eden, driver of the second truck, was transported to Memorial University Medical Center with serious injuries. He and Jarrot Wimmer, 30, of Rincon, a passenger in Elder’s truck, were listed in stable condition.

Officers with the Metro Major Accident Investigation Team found that Scott was driving a 1994 Ford Ranger east bound on Fort Argyle Road in the left lane behind a larger pickup. Elder was exiting Elkin Cemetery Road and attempting to turn left onto Fort Argyle Road in a 1997 Chevrolet S-10 pickup when the larger pickup began turning onto Elkin, shielding Scott’s pickup from Elder’s view.

Elder pulled into the roadway and his Chevrolet was struck by the Ford in the driver’s door area.

MAIT continues to investigate the crash.
