SPRINGFIELD — A hurdle that the Effingham Middle School football has cleared before is all that stands between it and a championship. The 7-0 Panthers are slated to host Southeast Bulloch on Wednesday at 5 p.m. in the Coastal Empire Region title game at Rebel Field. “This is kind of where we thought we would be, at this time of the year,” Panthers coach Mark Smith said.

Rincon City Council voted unanimously Monday to approve its first pay raise in 14 years, increasing council members’ pay to $750 per month and the mayor’s pay to $950 per month starting next year. The raises will apply to those elected in November, when three council seats and the mayor’s office will be on the ballot.
