RINCON --  United Way’s Effingham office celebrated a campaign victory at its Service Center on Wednesday.

Julie Dickey, United Way area director, thanked Georgia-Pacific’s employee volunteers Kristie Hooks and Marti Ward for taking the campaign into every corner of Effingham County.  Together, this team added 30 new donors and nine new Caring Club participants to United Way’s longtime supporters list.

This year’s fundraising campaign was led by Tess Smith (chair) and Ryan Waters (vice chair), who set the goal at $320,000. The pledged total is $365,252,

Georgia-Pacific Savannah River Mill, the Effingham County Board of Education, Kroger Marketplace-Rincon and Effingham Health System ave in excess of $10,000 and received recognition for their generosity.

During the campaign, five employees who work in Effingham County won prizes from the 13-week United Way of the Coastal Empire prize drawings (thousands of names across United Way’s four-county service area were in the bucket).  Four winners were Board of Education employees and the fifth works for Georgia-Pacific.  These winners will enjoy a Savannah stay-cation weekend, a weekend in Atlanta, Georgia-Pacific Paper Products valued at $500, a $500 Publix gift card and tickets to upcoming Savannah festivals (all generously donated by local organizations).

The staff of UWCE’s Effingham Office thanked the Effingham community for its tremendous support in helping feed the hungry, house the homeless and support neighbors in crisis.
