During its recent monthly meeting of its general membership at St. Matthews Missionary Baptist Church in Springfield, the Effingham County NAACP Branch announced that its branch election, a virtual one, will take place Nov. 5 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
For the first time, each NAACP will participate in a virtual election conducted by the national NAACP organization. All branch members in good standing can participate.
Henry Allen, NAACP Branch president, supervised the naming of an Election Nominating Committee. On behalf of the committee, one of its members, Lucille Clark, announced that it had nominated candidates for president, first vice president, second vice president, treasurer, assistant treasurer, secretary and assistant secretary. These nominations are not sufficient to assume these respective offices.
The positions will be affirmed in the Nov. 5 election. Gladys B. Smalls, the Effingham County Branch NAACP secretary, advised the members on the details surrounding the branch election.
The results will be announced after the election. Those elected will serve a two -year term.
Traditionally, those elected assume their offices on Jan. 1. Annually, the branch celebrates the Emancipation Proclamation. As such, the office holders will be sworn in Jan. 1, 2023, at an Emancipation Proclamation celebration.
