Weather delays signals on Highway 80

The state Department of Transportation announced that the planned opening of Highway 80 from Cherry Street to Highway 17 has been delayed because of weather conditions.

New traffic signals along Highway 80 at Cherry Street, Jimmy DeLoach Parkway, Ziegler Road and Highway 17 that had been scheduled to be in operation last week also have been delayed. Weather permitting, the four-lane road and traffic signals will be operational Friday.

The cost of the project is approximately $7 million. The department has added lanes in each direction to assist with congestion in these areas. The area is a work zone and drivers are urged to use extreme caution. Speed limits have been reduced and will be strictly enforced.
