SPRINGFIELD -- Effingham County's baseball game against Statesboro on Wednesday was washed out.

The Rebels trailed 1-0 in the top of the first inning when the umpires ordered the players off the field because of the potential for lightning. A few minutes later, heavy rain fell and drenched the uncovered field.

The contest will be played Friday as part of a doubleheader in Statesboro.

The Blue Devils won the opener of the three-game series 8-4 in Statesboro on Monday.
