Georgia Southern University’s Marie Fogle has been named the Southern Conference softball freshman of the year.

The Effingham County High School grad is hitting .325 with 12 steals. She also has one home run and nine runs batted in. Fogle has played in 43 games, starting in 39, for GSU. The Lady Eagles are in the Southern Conference tournament in Chattanooga, Tenn.

In all, six GSU players were named to the all-conference first and second teams, and two were named to the all-freshman team. Hanna Ennis of Snellville also was named to the all-freshman list.

Georgia Southern’s Brianna Streetmon was named the SoCon pitcher of the year. The College of Charleston’s Kristie Shifflett was named the player of the year.
