Houston sets mark

BLACKSBURG, Va. — A pair of Virginia Tech records fell on day two of the Virginia Tech Hokie Invitational as action concluded at Rector Field House.

Freshman Gabrielle Houston blew away the competition in her heat of the 400 meter dash, running it in 56.11 seconds.

Houston, a 2008 graduate of Effingham County High School, won her section with a new personal record. Her time bested the school record previously held by Ebony Muller at 56.7 seconds. Amerikorie Odey ran a personal best, finishing back-to-back with Chidi Walsh in the next heat, running 58.36 and 59.86, respectively. Houston’s time put her fifth overall.

In the 4x400m relay, Odey, Dionne Gibson, Walsh and Houston combined to run 3:53.05 to finish eighth overall in the first competition of the season. The Lady Hokies run this weekend in the North Carolina Invitational.

Houston is the daughter of Patrick and Pamela Wallace.
