Smith, Fogle earn all-tourney honors

Effingham County High School grads Megen Smith hit .294 with three home runs and eight RBIs, and Marie Fogle hit .473 and scored six runs to earn all-tournament honors at the Florida Gulf Coast Tournament for the Georgia Southern University softball team.

Smith also scored six runs while Fogle had two RBIs and stole a base.

Georgia Southern posted a 4-1 record over the three-day event in Fort Myers, Fla. Senior Nina Iduate was named tournament MVP after hitting .562. Brianna Streetmon was 2-0 in the circle and struck out 15 while giving up only one earned run and six hits. The Eagles posted wins over St. Francis (Pa.) (5-3), Minnesota (3-0), Connecticut (9-2) and Villanova (3-2).

Georgia Southern (7-5) returns to action today at 9 a.m. for the UCF Tournament in Orlando, Fla. Georgia Southern will take on Providence and Harvard today, College of Charleston and Boston College on Saturday, and wrap up with UCF on Sunday.
