GUYTON -- Sharode Roberts scored three first-half touchdowns, and Appling County ran away with a 42-7 victory over South Effingham on Friday night at The Corral.

Roberts scored on runs of 23, 9 and 3 yards as the Pirates built a 28-0 lead after 24 minutes.

South (0-2) scored its first touchdown of the year on an 8-yard pass from quarterback Alex Cela to Jeremiah Patterson-Young in the third quarter.

But the Mustangs generated little offense throughout the night. They were held to 27 yards -- minus 4 on the ground.

Appling, a nine-win team a year ago in Class 3A, had 352 yards, 312 on the ground.

Roberts finished with 94 yards on nine carries. Jaylen Johnson led the way with 144 yards on 11 carries.

ACHS' quarterback Jeremiah Holmes ran for 26 yards and two scores.
