SPRINGFIELD -- The Islands Sharks only got partially through the door that the Effingham County Rebels opened for them on Saturday.

The Sharks tallied three runs with the aid of a couple third-innings to take a 4-1 lead at Rebel Field. The Rebels, however, answered with three runs in their third at-bat and added two more in the fourth to win 6-4.

Austin Mealor, Luke Howze and Justin Wilcox each swatted two hits to pace Effingham County (2-3), which notched its first win since swatting South Effingham 6-1 in its Feb. 10 season opener.

Owen Kieffer paced the Rebels with two RBI and Mealor, J.J.Brutcher, Chrys Hawkins and Wilcox each added one.

Garrett Miller went the distance on the mound for the Rebels. He give up six hits and four runs, three of which were unearned. He also logged nine strikeouts. 

The Rebels were set to play Greenbrier on Saturday at 3 p.m.
