GUYTON — South Effingham’s 2019-20 girls basketball team conducted its long-awaited awards banquet Sept. 30. The event in the school cafeteria was delayed because of COVID-19 concerns.

Junior center Melanie Zeigler and senior guard Cianna Trenary earned co-MVP honors.

Zeigler tallied 266 points on 49 percent shooting. She also hauled in 234 rebounds and logged 15 blocks en route to gaining second-team All-Region 2-AAAAA  recognition.

A four-year letterman, Trenary, who canned 63 percent of her free throws, racked up 149 points, 86 assists and 90 steals. She was also named second-team all-region.

Madison Coleman, Destinee Owens and Trenary received Team Captain awards. Owens was also recognized for leading the Lady Mustangs in rebounds and deflections.

Kay-Mar Griffin was named the Rising Mustang.

Laney Dobbs garnered the Highest Three-Point Percentage Award.

Jordyn Powell (Hustle Award), Paris Kelley (Rising Mustang Award), Shi’Asia House (Coaches Award) and Dobbs (MVP) were junior varsity honorees.
