South Effingham held off a late charge to nip Vidalia 5-3 in a non-region softball game Tuesday in Guyton.
The Lady Mustangs (2-1) got all their runs in the four innings en route to a 5-0 advantage. They finished with eight hits, including two each by Whitney Thompson and Avery Roddenberry.
Thompson had two RBI.
Bailey Kendziorski was the winning pitcher, working all seven frames. She surrendered five hits and no walks, finishing with six strikeouts.
