The Effingham County Rebels took ninth place in a 16-team field at East Paulding High School’s Crossbone Classic on Saturday, and two wrestlers claimed individual titles.

Josh Barnhill won the 103-pound class, going 3-0. He won the final by forfeit after Mason Martin of Cass was injured in his semifinal match.

Kevin Ulmer won the 125-pound division, going 3-0 and beating Cass’ Justin Martin 8-4 in the final. Martin was the runner-up in last year’s Class AAA 119 state championship. Ulmer also was named the lightweight outstanding wrestler of the tournament.

Effingham’s Zach Gilliam was third in the 130-pound class, going 5-1. Damon Cadle, the reigning 130-pound champ in Class AAA, won the tournament. Desmond Washington (4-2) was fifth at 189 pounds.

Effingham finished with 96.5 points, 3.5 behind eighth-place Lithia Springs. Cass won the tournament with 246 points and a whopping 51-point cushion over McIntosh. Henry County was third with 184 points.

Cass was second in last year’s Class AAA traditional tournament and Henry County was third.

The Rebels are off this weekend and will travel to Brunswick for the 3-AAAA area tournament next weekend.
