More than 2,600 miles from South Effingham High School, former Mustang pitcher Austin Chambliss is putting up good numbers for the Tri-City Dust Devils in Pasco, Wash.

The Devils play in the Northwest League and are a Class A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies.

In Chambliss’ last outing on June 30, he pitched 2-1/3 innings of shutout ball, while striking out two and allowing only two hits against the Spokane Indians.

Unfortunately for the Dust Devils, Chambliss’ gritty performance was not enough, losing 7-6.

For the season, the right-hander is 0-1 with an earned run average of 3.24. He has struck out 12 in 8-1/3 innings and batters are hitting only .167 against him.

Fellow former South Effingham standout Josh Reddick went 1-for-3, with a walk and an RBI in the Greenville Drive’s 6-3 win against Greensboro in the South Atlantic League Thursday.

Reddick is hitting .338 for the season and has played in 41 games. His OPS (on base percentage plus slugging) is .915.

The 20-year-old outfielder is hitting .375 with four doubles in his last 10 games.

Effingham resident Jason Shiell, pitching for the Triple-A Omaha Royals, is 0-3 with a 5.21 ERA for the Kansas City Royals’ top minor league team. Shiell, a Windsor Forest graduate, gave up two runs on four hits in two innings against Round Rock on Thursday.
