SPRINGFIELD -- It was the perfect time for Jaydon Maennche to turn up the volume on her quietly effective career.

Effingham County's first baseman socked four hits and knocked in six runs in Thursday's Region 2-AAAAAA championship series against Richmond Hill. The senior collected the lone RBI in a 1-0 win in the opening game and blasted her first two high school homers in a 9-0 rout in the nightcap that clinched the best-of-three set.

Manennche was far from the Lady Rebels' only heroine. An illness and injury forced Jennie Edinger, Enna Lackey and some other players to step up their games, too.

"We told them at the start of the year that it would take a team effort -- that we couldn't ride one person  -- and they bought into that,"  Effingham County coach Johnny Coleman said. "Tonight, Jaydon Maennche absolutely went off at the plate."
