SPRINGFIELD -- The Islands Lady Sharks were slippery as eels Saturday.

Every time the Effingham County Lady Rebels (2-5) grabbed the lead, the Lady Sharks (3-2) slithered away en route to a 47-44 victory.

The teams were never separated by more than four points in the final quarter. Islands held on after seizing the lead for the final time with 3:46 left.

The contest came within a second of going into overtime as Catherine Hall's half-court heave just after the buzzer sounded stripped the net. She finished with 12 points, which was matched by teammate De'ja House.

Elizabeth Sierzant paced the Lady Sharks with 18 points.
