The Effingham County Lady Rebels softball team’s season came to an end with 1-0 loss to McIntosh in the Class AAAA North Sectional on Saturday at the Lovejoy Regional Park in Hampton.

The Lady Rebels finished their season at 24-7.

In the opener against Thomas County Central, Shelby Duff allowed just one hit and struck out five, but the game was still scoreless until the top of the seventh inning. With two on and one out, Marie Fogle homered, plating Duff and Kayla Calhoun ahead of her. Fogle finished 3-for-4. Kayla English had a double as the Lady Rebels finished with seven hits.

Northgate snapped a 2-2 tie in the fifth with six runs on the way to a 9-3 victory in the second round. Down 2-0 after the first, the Lady Rebels tied the game in the third when Duff doubled in Ashlynn Seckinger. Kayla Calhoun scored on an error, and the Lady Rebels loaded the bases with one out. But they couldn't push across another run in the frame.

With a runner on first in the seventh, Calhoun doubled and Seckinger later scored on a passed ball.

The Lady Rebels made six errors in the loss, leading to six unearned runs.

In the finale Saturday, the McIntosh Lady Chiefs pushed across a run in the bottom of the first and made it stand up as they held the Lady Rebels to just Duff's fourth-inning double.

Duff struck out nine and walked one in six innings. She gave up six hits.
