Middle Georgia baseball signees take in jamboree

The Middle Georgia College Warriors baseball team held its preseason jamboree on Feb. 2. All incoming signees met in the Warrior Room for their official signing at 5:30 p.m. with the jamboree following in Georgia Hall at 7.

The jamboree’s guest speaker was Todd Greene, former major league player with the Anaheim Angels, Texas Rangers and Colorado Rockies , among others. He played college baseball at Georgia Southern.

Josh Smith of Guyton, a sophomore first baseman for the Warriors, batted .358 during the 2007 season with seven home runs and broke the Warriors’ game record for RBIs with eight in one game this past season. He is the son of Ricky and Terry Smith of Guyton.

Three local area players signed their commitment letters the same night. Dylan Scott of Guyton, an ECHS standout, signed as an outfielder. Jordan Hill of Guyton, who attends Savannah Christian, signed as a catcher. Jonathan Hester of Savannah, who also attends Savannah Christian, signed as an infielder. The trio has played baseball together for the past nine years.
