Averitt Center promotes a new ‘beading camp’

STATESBORO — Get the kids out of the house as they start their summer break for a new “Down and Funky Beading” camp that will be offered at the Averitt Center for the Arts from June 4-7 from 9 a.m.-noon.   This camp provides an opportunity for kids to let their imagination run wild by creating their own one of a kind earrings, bracelets, and necklaces using beads!  Throughout the week, instructor Julie Ray will teach the students how to create their own personalized accessories that they never thought they had the ability to design.  Students will look forward to a surprise activity on the last day that will leave them with something to remember for a lifetime.  The camp is designed for children ages 11-14 and costs $100 per camper.  For more information on this camp or any others going on throughout the summer, please feel free to call the Averitt Center at (912) 212-ARTS(2787) Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m.–5 p.m., or e-mail programs@averittcenterforthearts.org

Summer Studios 2007 will feature three sessions for kids who are interested in art

Georgia Southern University is offering a trio of unique day camps for elementary, middle and high school students who have an interest in art.

Summer Studios 2007 is sponsored by the Betty Foy Sanders Development of Art and the Continuing Education Center. The camp topics vary each week, and kids can opt to attend any or all of the sessions.

“Museum Art” will run from June 18-22. “Global Art” will run from June 25-29. “Traditions” will run from July 9-13. Each day of the camp will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 4 p.m.

Working in age-appropriate groups, the campers will learn about art appreciation and history while they participate in drawing, painting, papermaking, printmaking, ceramics and sculpture.

In addition, the camps will include sports breaks, on-campus field trips, movies and games. Each student is required to bring their own lunch.

The fee for each camp is $125 per person. Extended stay until 5 p.m. is available for an additional $20 per person.
