Springfield Elementary students are turning their loose change into new books for the school.

SES raised $247.06 in its recent coin drive through Scholastic Corporation. The money will be used to purchase additional books for the school’s media center.

Students had a boys vs. girls contest to raise the most money. The boys raised a total of $104.16 to the girls’ $94.61.

Since the boys won, SES Principal Terri Johnson had to dress like a man.

Scholastic will match Springfield Elementary’s total with a donation to the All for Books program, giving books to charity in the school’s name.
