Countywide student art show coming next month

Select students from all Effingham County Schools will be participating in the fifth annual district-wide art exhibition in celebration of visual arts in our schools and Youth Art Month.

The exhibition will be held at the Effingham College and Career Academy, at 2940 Highway 21 South. It will be free and open to the public from March 14-18, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. There will be an opening reception on March 15 from 5-7 p.m.

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a $203 million fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night, reflecting an 11% increase over last year. The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
