The Dr. Ray Webb Scholarship committee has announced the annual period for receipt of applications for grants from this fund.

Applications will be received until 5 p.m on Dec. 28.  Applications may be picked up at patient registration area or a nurse’s station at the Effingham Hospital.

The scholarship is funded by contributions and is handled through the oversight of the financial officer of the hospital.

Contributions to the fund are tax deductible. Dr. Brelsford, chief of staff of the hospital, has issued a challenge the medical staff and visiting doctors to contribute to this fund in honor of Dr. Webb, who made the practice of medicine and the Effingham Hospital focal points during his lifetime.

An applicant must be a resident of Effingham County and currently employed in the health care field, seeking to advance their skill and knowledge through further study and/or degree.  Full requirements are a part of the application package.

Ruth Lee, chairperson of the scholarship committee, said “Those who knew Dr. Webb knew of his interest in helping those who do the necessary basic work at the hospital or other health care facilities to enhance their knowledge and expertise. He felt that they had already tested the waters of the health care experience and knew that they wanted to stay in that field.

“The committee, in following this strong belief of Dr. Webb’s, feels that those with the health care experience are the ones who stay committed and endeavor to always raise the standards in the area of health care.”

It is anticipated that the award of such scholarship will be made at noon on Jan. 4. The public is invited to attend.
