Local students make VSU dean’s list

VALDOSTA — Eight students from Effingham County made the fall 2013 dean’s list at Valdosta State University.

Students who achieve a semester grade-point average of 3.5 or higher on nine or more semester hours with an institutional GPA of 3.0 or higher are recognized by being placed on the dean’s list.

Hillman on president’s list at Pratt Institute

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Christina Hillman of Springfield was among more than 1,000 students who made the president’s list at Pratt Institute in the fall 2013 semester.

Founded in 1887, Pratt Institute is dedicated to preparing its 4,700 undergraduate and graduate students for successful careers in art, design, architecture, information and library science, and liberal arts and sciences.

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a $203 million fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night, reflecting an 11% increase over last year. The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
