The Springfield chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Effingham County Hussars 2285, presented a Georgia Day program to Rincon Elementary School fifth grade students on Feb. 12.

Three chapter members, Maryanne Whatley, Lena Ruth Nizzi and Faye Morgan, presented the program. Assistant principal Wallace Blackstock gave the introduction and welcome. Chapter members led the pledges to the national and state flags, after which Rev. Greg Hartzog, minister of music at First Baptist Church of Rincon, sang “Georgia On My Mind.”

Information explaining the UDC highlighting the objectives of the local chapter was presented, as well as historical facts and information on places of interest to visit. The students were encouraged to be proud of their heritage as Georgians, their state symbols and of the state of Georgia. Students participated by answering questions from a Georgia Day quiz.

A Georgia division song book was presented to instructional supervisor Ramona Kessler, which was donated by the chapter for the school library or music department.
