Jeffers earns VSU degree

Devon Jeffers, a 2003 alumna of Effingham County High School, graduated May 4 with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a minor in philosophy from Valdosta State University. The commencement ceremony took place in the P.E. complex at 4 p.m on main campus.  

Jeffers also graduated with magna cum laude honors, which is based on the GPA scale of 4.0 respectively.  Magna cum laude graduates must have a cumulative GPA between 3.7-3.89.

Jeffers’ GPA of 3.87 also won her the Martha Wiseman McKey Award. This award is given to the senior English major with the highest cumulative grade point average who has completed at least 90 hours of course work and at least 60 hours of academic work at Valdosta State University.

Jeffers was also inducted into the International English Honor Society of Sigma Tau Delta in early January. 

Membership is offered through application and to those who are enrolled in an accredited university system and have completed three or more semesters of course work in English beyond the freshman level.

Jeffers plans on preparing for law school this fall and attending law school next spring.    

Jeffers is the daughter of the late David E. Jeffers Jr. and Dawn B. Jeffers of Suwanee, formerly of Springfield. She is the granddaughter of Gene and June Jeffers of Clyo and Betty Jo Bragg of Springfield.
