Local cadet achieves academic excellence

Charleston, S.C. — Cadet Ray Darwin Webb of Clyo achieved dean’s list status at The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, for the 2006-07 spring semester.

Dean’s list recognition is give to those cadets and active duty military students registered for 12 or more semester hours whose grade point ratio is 3.2 or higher with no grade below a C for the previous semester’s work.

Webb is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Darwin Webb.

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a $203 million fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night, reflecting an 11% increase over last year. The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
