The South Effingham High School Marching Mustangs, band directors, band boosters and parents hosted the 2nd Annual Marching Mustang Invitational marching band competition at The Corral on Oct. 29.

Visitors braved a fierce wind and cold weather all day. Competing bands in the preliminary and finals competition format were the Appling County High School Pirate Brigade, Brantley County High School Heron Band, Burke County High School’s Pride of Burke County, George Walton Academy Marching Bulldog Band, Jeff Davis High School Yellow Jacket Marching Band, and Taylor County High School Marching Vikings.

The George Walton Academy Marching Bulldog Band “marched out” as the Grand Champion Band, as well as taking awards for top overall percussion, auxiliary, music, marching, effect and drum major.  Jeff Davis High School was first runner-up in competition finals and Burke County High School was second runner-up.

The South Effingham Marching Mustangs, grand champions at the Grovetown Warrior Invitational and second runner-up at the Heart of Georgia Marching Band Invitational, presented their 2011 show “Letters Home” for an exhibition performance after the finals.
