SEMS student wins gold, silver at state horse show

Michael Holt Jr., a student South Effingham Middle School, participated in the state horse show for Special Olympics Nov. 9-11 in Perry.

Michael won gold in English Equitation Intermediate II Division, silver in advanced showmanship and fourth place in Trail Intermediate II Division.

Michael attends lessons at Faith Equestrian Therapeutic Center in Guyton.

Lauren Thompson, a SEMS student, volunteers at the Center and went to Perry to assist during the competition.

Effingham County High School introduced its new mascot, Rowdy the Rebel, this week. Inspired by popular sports mascots, Rowdy will appear at school events, pep rallies, and games, giving students a fresh way to engage and celebrate school spirit.
