The South Effingham Middle School Y-Club held its annual canned food drive Nov. 12-16. Daily prizes were given to the homeroom that brought in the most of the “designated item of the day.” Winning three of the five days was Mrs. Bonorato’s sixth grade homeroom and Mr. Richard’s seventh grade homeroom won the other two days.

The homeroom at each grade level bringing in the most items won a pizza party sponsored by Principal Dr. Mark Winters: sixth grade winner bringing in 474 items was Brandi Bonorato’s class, seventh grade winner bringing in 375 items was Paul Richards’ class, and eighth grade winner bringing in 226 items was Laura Cook’s class.

All together, SEMS students brought in 4,968 items. All the food collected was donated to Effingham County food pantries.
