On Feb. 19, South Effingham FFA members participated in the Effingham County FFA Alumni livestock show at the Effingham County Fairgrounds.

The purpose of the show was to help prepare the students for Georgia Junior National livestock show in Perry.

The following winners were: junior showmanship division, Jordan Brinson; junior showmanship champion, Cyndilee Cone; senior showmanship champion, Rachael Poole; and grand champion, Cyndilee Cone.

Class winners were Rachael Poole, Ryan Boykin and Cyndilee Cone.

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a $203 million fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night, reflecting an 11% increase over last year. The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
