Webb honored for academic achievement at The Citadel

Cadet Ray Darwin Webb of Clyo was recently honored for outstanding academic achievement at The Citadel during the fall semester of the 2007-2008 academic year.

Webb achieved dean’s list recognition, which is given to those cadets and active duty military students registered for 12 or more hours whose grade point ratio is 3.2 or higher with no grade below a C for the previous semester’s work.

In addition, Webb earned a Gold Star for achieving a 3.7 grade point average or higher.

Webb is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Darwin Webb.

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a $203 million fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night, reflecting an 11% increase over last year. The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
