SAVANNAH — To close its 2008 summer theatre season, the Armstrong Atlantic State University Department of Art, Music and Theatre (AASU AMT) presents David Auburn’s suspenseful drama “Proof.”

Opening the show July 24 at 7:30 p.m., AMT will present two weekends of performances in the cozy setting of AASU’s Masquers Chinese Theater (MCT) at Armstrong Center.

About “Proof”
One of the most acclaimed plays of this century, the 2001 Pulitzer Prize and Tony award winning play has been since popularized by the 2005 film version starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Anthony Hopkins. Auburn explores trust and love in human relationships through the perplexingly inseparable connection between genius and madness.

The New York Times wrote “an exhilarating and assured new play... accessible and compelling as a detective story.”

Performances: “Proof” runs July 24-27, 31 and Aug 1-3. Thursday through Saturday performances begin at 7:30 p.m. The Sunday matinées begin at 3 p.m.  Limited seating is available; advance ticketing is highly recommended. General admission is only $10. Audience discretion is advised. If tickets are available at the door, AASU students with valid AASU ID will be admitted for free. Call 344-2556 for more information.

The Masquers Chinese Theater, located in Armstrong Center (13040 Abercorn St., Savannah), has served as the temporary home for the Masquers, AASU’s student theatre troupe, for seven months now and will continue to host AASU theatre performances until renovation of Jenkins Hall, AASU AMT’s permanent theatre home, is completed this fall.

As homage to the famous Hollywood Boulevard movie theatre known for red carpet events, “A-list” celebrity sidewalk handprints, and a spectacular Chinese architecture exterior design, the theatre program has converted a vacated Chinese Buffet Restaurant into a welcoming black box theatre environment. Parking is convenient, and the building is wheelchair accessible.
