Begin planning your four-legged friend’s costume now.

Savannah’s Halloween event for dogs, Wag-O-Ween 2009, will take place on Oct. 24 from noon-5 p.m.  Over 60 businesses in historic downtown Savannah will be giving out canine cookies to costumed, trick or treating dogs.

Wag-O-Ween, a unique Savannah holiday, has been delighting people and dogs for four years.

This is an increasingly popular event that encourages people to explore the shops and dog friendly cafes in downtown Savannah, gives businesses a chance to do some good will marketing and provides countless photo opportunities for delighted tourists.

The fun begins at Canine Palace, 618 Abercorn St. at noon when the maps showing the trick or treating sites go on sale. Maps are available with a minimum $5 donation per adult. Costumes for dogs are encouraged — human costumes optional.

The proceeds from Wag-O-Ween 2009 will go to the Humane Society of Chatham/Savannah. This event is hosted by St. Almo (Savannah's True Animal Lovers Meeting Others).
