Mr. and Mrs. Michael G. Sharpe of Guyton announce the engagement of their son, Derick Jason Sharpe, to Courtney Anne Akins of Statesboro, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jeff S. Akins.

The groom elect is the grandson of Mr. O.F. Sharpe and the late Shirley Kessler Sharpe of Guyton and Mr. Richard E. Page and the late Barbara Jane Page of Savannah. He is a 2002 honor graduate of South Effingham High School and will graduate in May from Georgia Southern University with a Bachelor of Science in chemistry.

The bride elect is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul S. Akins and the late William F. and Lottie D. Ethridge of Brunswick. She is a 2003 honor graduate of Statesboro High School and will graduate in May from Georgia Southern University with a Bachelor of Arts in writing and linguistics.

The couple plan to wed on June 21 at 6 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Statesboro.
